5 Little Cottonwood Canyon Trails

Little Cottonwood Canyon lies within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest, just 15 miles from the hustle and bustle of Salt Lake City. The canyon is used for year-round adventures like cycling, hiking, fishing, and backcountry skiing. There are eight trailheads to choose from, whether you are looking for a family-friendly hike or an advanced route.

1. Cecret Lake Trail

The Cecret Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails in the canyon, less than two miles roundtrip. There are around 300 feet of elevation gain with interpretive signs where you can learn about local plants, animals, and geology.

2. Catherine’s Pass

Colorful groves of Aspens await you this fall on Catherine’s Pass. You will follow the ski lift as you climb upwards, spotting moose and other wildlife along the way. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with views of Lake Catherine and Mount Wolverine.

3. Bell Canyon Trail

Hike up a canyon, past a scenic reservoir, and up to a picturesque waterfall on the Bell Canyon Trail. The stream leads to a series of waterfalls backdropped by colorful foliage in the fall.

4. Red Pine Lake Trail

The Red Pine Lake Trail is a strenuous seven-mile out and back hike bringing hikers to one of Utah’s best high-mountain lakes. Much of the trail winds through vibrant Aspen groves exploding with shades of yellow.

5. White Pine Lake Trail

The White Pine Lake Trail is another challenging hike that spans over ten miles out and back. You will walk through valleys, alpine forests, lakes, and meadows.
