Discrete Cirque Series – Snowbird 2019
09/07/2019 – 9:00AM
The cirque series is redefining what mountain running is all about. Starting from the base of a world-famous Ski resort, you’ll rally up windswept ridges and glacial cirques to towering peaks, power down a quad-burning descent, break the tape into a festival of live music, food, drink, and vendor tents. The elevation is serious but the mileage is manageable, and the race is as hardcore as you want it to be–beat the pros down to earn legend status and cash prizes, or enjoy the views and let the challenge be it’s own reward.
The 8.7 mile course with 3,566 ft of climbing starts at Creekside base area, running up towards Mid-Gad, then east onto Rothman Way, connecting you to steep Peruvian service road on Peruvian Gulch Trail. From there, the course turns onto the Ridge trail, end up on Hidden Peak with expansive views of the entire Wasatch Range. Catch your breath and loop around the backside of Hidden Peak and make your way down to Gorilla Pass before heading up to the Summit of Mt. Baldy, the highest point in the race. Make your way down a steep and technical section of trail, being sure to save enough energy for one more uphill section to the cool refreshing shade and air of Snowbird’s Ski through Tunnel. Now a final mix of dirt roads and single track for the final 3 mile stretch down Peruvian Gulch, single track and roads, passing by Oktoberfest plaza & the Mountain coaster, then into the Finish Line back in Creekside. The race course is located on the Salt Lake Ranger District, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
