Canyon Blog took the opportunity to coerce three of Snowbird’s finest to provide a tour of the new Mid Gad restaurant as the finishing touches fall into place. It’s amazing what a little backsheesh can do.
Jake Treadwell, mountain ops director, and two of your correspondent’s favorite mountain ops leaders, Johanna and Mel, took time out of their day for your benefit. Alright, perhaps for the Canyon Blog’s benefit.

The first thing you’ll notice this winter when you come sliding up is the wide open and radiant heated deck. That’s right folks, enjoy that frosty beer (more on that in a moment) without freezing your stein.

Inside there’s seating for 370 (similar to before) but without feeling like you’re going to bump your head on all the previous heavy timber (more on that in a moment too). The views across the open space and out the windows are part of the reason you come to Little Cottonwood. There will be couches for lounging around and the kitchen and ordering area are actually larger than on Hidden Peak. The menu will be similar but with the addition of a burger station.

A cool piece of history is the wooden draft beer (more on that also in a moment) station. The counter comes from a reconditioned beam from the previous structure. Nearly as important is the fridge in the rear dedicated to kegs. A keg fridge. Hard to beat that for cool.

The entire facility is also now a single floor, so no more navigating those stairs in ski boots. More surprises in store but your correspondent was sworn to secrecy so you’re going to have to come out this winter or wait on another update. In all Canyon Blog awards the new building an A- grade. Why not an A+ you ask? Canyon Blog was not an easy grader as an adjunct professor.
Snow will be upon us soon so don’t wait to get your reservation in with Canyon Services for any one of their outstanding lodging options. It’s forecast to be a good season even though Canyon Blog will miss the first half. For that story tune in again soon.
