Well, the chairs may have stopped spinning, but the season isn’t over. Though to be fair, your correspondent is one of only a handful of holdouts still making turns. To that end, here are a few shots from his daily boot pack up Dalton’s Draw.

The remnants of the season are not the topic of this month’s installment, however. Canyon Blog stopped by to chat with Dave Fields, Snowbird general manager, to get the latest on the mountain since it’s clear they have plans. First is the replacement for the Mid Gad restaurant.

“We’re really excited about the new dining experience going in as a replacement,” he said. “It’s a beautiful glass building with improved views across the slopes.”

The entire project will take 18-20 months and the plan is to work on it through the 24/25 ski season with an opening date in the fall of 2025. To compensate for the loss of burger options on the mountain Snowbird will provide expanded choices at Creekside, 71, and Rendezvous.

Next on the list is the replacement for the two-person legacy chair that was the Wilbere we all know. The trees have already been cleared for the new lift and it’s on track for the upcoming ski season. The new chair is a fixed grip quad with moving carpet for loading.

“We’re incorporating additional snow making to the new Wilbere chair to enhance early season skiing for our guests,” added Dave. You’ll also notice that the new chair will load closer to the other Gad chairs, making choices easier when you’re picking your lift line. For a sense of the new chairlift line here’s a photo looking down from the current Wilbere bull head.

With all the construction the mountain is subject to restrictions, primarily to hiking and biking in Gad Valley. Be sure to check the Snowbird daily mountain report on their website when making your choices during your stay with Canyon Services.

Finally, Oktoberfest will commence on August 10th. Watch this space for updates on this year’s festivities and in the meantime don’t be jealous of your correspondent’s ski options. Remember, you can join him anytime. Provided you have a place to stay that is…
