You’re probably unaware that Snowbird Guides exist. It’s an easy mistake since they’re relatively unknown. And yet, and yet, they hide in plain sight. If you’ve skied the Bird in the past decade you’ve no doubt walked right past their office, which would best be described as located in the most central real estate at Snowbird Center.

To correct this oversight, Canyon Blog sat down with Eliza Allen, Snowbird’s Mountain Guides Director, to figure out just why it is that no one knows about the great services they provide. Turns out, it’s a bit mysterious for the ten-year veteran of Snowbird ski patrol and now lead guide as well.

So, what is it you do? “We add to the Snowbird experience, even for locals and guests who’ve spent years with us. We share the history of mining, glaciology, Snowbird’s story and help with interpretation.”

Sounds like an exceedingly cool opportunity. “Absolutely. What I love is the ‘Aha, I didn’t know’ moments. And we get instill a passion for the place that is Snowbird and Little Cottonwood Canyon.”

Here’s the easy scoop, and they offer some fantastic deals. Not the least of which is free Saturday guided walks at 10am that run about two hours with minimal elevation change. Or you can elect to throw in with another family or corporate group for $45 per person daily at 10am and 1:30pm. Theses are usually 2-3 hours and cover 2-4 miles. Finally, there’s the private group rate of $130 per person. These last 4-6 hours and you can determine the location including: Mary Ellen Gulch, Twin Peaks, Mt. Superior, Mineral Basin and White Pine. If your destination requires a tram, that’s included in the individual pricing. You can see why they’re such great deals.

So, where are they again, you ask? Right inside the tram building door entrance to the lower level. To ensure you don’t miss them (or mistake them for the activity center that used to reside there) your correspondent shares these readily identifiable shots.

This weekend (July 15th) from 9-2 is also the Wasatch Wildflower Festival and the perfect time to try out that guide option. For more information Contact Eliza or Julia at Snowbird Guides 801.933.2096 or visit them at https://www.snowbird.com/summer-activities/guided-hikes/
